MALATYA. Three years after the frost that almost cost Turkish apricot farmers their entire crop, the dried fruit production is back up to par again.

Production estimates from the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture for this year's crop are at 142,000 mt, which means that the dried apricot production would be at a 5-year high.

Old crop is gaining

Despite the good crop prospects, the prices for dried apricots, no 2 have increased by about 200 USD/mt since last week. High quality supplies are running low. The price level may, however, still rise until the new season.

The first offers for the new crop are expected in the next few days. The anticipated good availability in the coming season should ensure that prices remain at a level similar to the last few weeks.
