Almonds: uneasy speculations

SACRAMENTO/ISFAHAN. US almond shipments exceeded 2 billion pounds in April. The USDA subjective crop forecast is fuelling uneasy speculations. Almonds have come under fire in Iran.

Sharp rise in US exports

Domestic shipments may have bounced back in April, but exports are still the driving force. After declining by 6% in March monthly domestic shipments ranged 14% higher at 64.8 million pounds in April 2024 as compared with April 2023. This rise, however, pales in comparison to exports. Monthly exports surged by 26% to 176.7 million pounds in April as compared with the same month last year.
