MADRID. Unofficial estimates are speaking of a 5-year high for the Spanish almond production, but uncertainty is slowly spreading across the market.

Celebrated too soon?

At 57,000 mt, the 2017 crop should be about 26% bigger than last year; optimists even projected a possible production of more than 70,000 mt. More and more market players are, however, piping up and expressing their doubts. Spring frost and drought are only two factors that could also have long-term negative effects on the Spanish almond production, and therefore many prefer to wait and see how the crop develops in the next few weeks.

The price trend remains stable to falling, depending on the supplier and the type. Valencias and Marconas dropped once more this week, and Largueta almonds are maintaining the same level as last week.
