MADRID/SACRAMENTO. According to market players, the organic almond crop in Spain was lower than expected. Traders are hoping for a good Christmas business despite the current situation.

Prices for organic almonds rise drastically

Spanish almond prices are following the international trend, fuelled by the expected record crop in California. In recent weeks, the low price level has led to increased demand; however, trading activity has now slowed down and is significantly lower than usual at this time of year. Market players are hoping for a reasonable Christmas business, but reckon that sales markets that depend on large celebrations, tourism and walk-in customers will continue to live from hand to mouth for the time being.
