Almonds: crop speculations persist

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. Producers are not quite as optimistic as official government bodies in Spain and California. Exports have started off well for almonds in Spain. US suppliers are urging buyers to act.

Production up in Spain

Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is highly upbeat about this year’s production. Producers are, however, less optimistic. As local media highlight the Ministry estimates that in-shell production will recover to 373,558 mt in 2024/205. This would be 17% up on last year and 9% higher than the five-year moving average. Frost and drought severely impacted the crops in the past two years, and the picture is far from homogenous this year.
